The scaled resolution modes on M4/M5 derive from whatever the system perceives as the monitor's native resolution. On M2/M3, the system would produce HiDPI modes up to 2.0x the native resolution (so 3840x2160 native provided a 7680x4320 frame buffer). On M4/M5, this ceilings at approximately 1.75x. You can deceive the system by manipulating the EDID to report a higher native resolution, but then the display cannot actually process the signal, making it an impractical solution for 4K panels.
